Recall Date: January 11, 2024

Safety Hazard Identified
The helmets, identified for their non-compliance with federal safety regulations, pose a severe risk of head injury in the event of a crash. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has specified that these helmets fail to meet the coverage, positional stability, and labeling requirements mandatory for bicycle helmets.
Recall Remedy and Consumer Action
As a remedy, the manufacturer, Xander Bicycle Corporation, DBA Retrospec, based in Perris, California, advises consumers to immediately cease using the affected helmets. In an unprecedented move for consumer safety, Retrospec is offering a full refund. To facilitate this, consumers are instructed to cut off the helmet straps, mark the helmet with initials and the date near the Retrospec logo, and upload a photo of the altered helmet to the recall registration page on Retrospec’s website. This process ensures the decommissioning of the non-compliant helmets.
Sales Information
These helmets were available for purchase from February 2019 through March 2023, retailing between $18 and $23. Major retail outlets including T Scheels, Play it Again Sports, independent bicycle stores, and online platforms such as Retrospec.com and Amazon.com were the primary sales channels.
