BMX Race Box One Bicycle Stem Recall Due to Injury Hazard
Box Components has initiated a 160 BMX Race Box One Bicycle Stem recall, due to a significant safety hazard. The stems’ faceplate can crack and break, causing the handlebars to loosen. This defect poses a risk of the rider losing control and potentially crashing, leading to injuries.
Recall Date: February 01, 2024
Product Description
This recall specifically targets the Box One Oversized 31.8 Delta bicycle stems, which are essential for clamping the fork steerer and/or handlebars. These stems are distinguishable by their dual-tone gray stripes laser-etched at about a 45-degree angle on the sides of the stem body, along with “Boxone” and the Box icon. The bolts used in the stems measure 6 mm in diameter and 20 mm in length, and the stems come in black, red, blue, gold, purple, and silver. They were sold as separate components, not as part of complete bicycles.
Sales Information
The recalled bicycle stems were available for purchase through BMX Race dealers across the nation and online at Box Components’ official website from January 2023 to October 2023. Each stem was sold separately at approximately $100.
Safety Hazard Identified
The stems’ faceplate is prone to cracking and breaking, which can result in the handlebars loosening unexpectedly. This defect significantly increases the risk of the rider losing control, leading to potential injuries in the event of a crash.
