Home Design Upholstered Bed Recall Due to Risks of Breaking

In a  safety alert, Home Design has issued an urgent bed recall for its range of upholstered low profile standard and platform beds due to a serious risk. These beds have been found to break, sag, or collapse during use, creating a hazard that could lead to falls and injuries for consumers. This recall, impacting over half a million units sold in the U.S. and Canada, prompts immediate consumer action to prevent potential harm.

Product Description

Home Design’s recent recall includes a variety of upholstered low profile standard and platform beds. The affected models are: Part numbers 80002, 80032, 80055 in standard beds, and 80071, 80053 in platform beds. These beds, available in multiple colors and sizes, feature tufted upholstery and differ in their support types – standard beds requiring a box spring and platform beds without this requirement. Notably, the part number 80053 lacks a central support leg.

Sales Information for Recalled Bed

From July 2018 to November 2023, these beds were sold at prominent retailers like Wayfair, Walmart.com, and Overstock.com. Prices ranged between $100 and $300. Approximately 527,177 units were sold in the United States and an additional 55,847 units in Canada.

Safety Hazard Identified

The recall was initiated due to the beds’ propensity to break, sag, or collapse, posing significant fall and injury risks to users. There have been 128 reported incidents, including 36 injuries, linked to these defects.

Recall Remedy and Consumer Action

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled beds. Home Design offers free replacement slats and side rails for repair. To avail this, consumers must email a picture of the bed and its law label, or provide proof of purchase, to recall@homedesign-us.com. Home Design is also directly reaching out to known purchasers.

These beds were manufactured in Malaysia by Home Design Inc., based in Silver Lake, Indiana.
