BISSELL® Multi Reach Vacuum Cleaner Recall Due to Fire Hazard

BISSELL has announced a Multi Reach Hand and Floor Vacuum Cleaner recall due to a significant fire risk. The vacuum’s battery pack can overheat, emit smoke, and potentially catch fire, posing a severe hazard to consumers. The company initiated the recall, affecting approximately 142,000 units in the U.S. and an additional 14,600 in Canada.

The vacuum cleaner recall involves several models of the BISSELL Multi Reach Hand and Floor Vacuum Cleaners, specifically models 1985, 19851 (also known as Multi Auto), 19859, 1985T, 2151, 21512, 21513, 21517, 21518, 21519, 2151A, 2151T, 2151W, 2151V.

These vacuum cleaners are identifiable by the “Multi Reach” print on the hand vacuum part and were available in various colors. The model numbers can be found on the rating label located behind the dirt tank.

The products hit the market from August 2016 through December 2022 and were priced between $110 and $270.

Safety Hazard Identified

The vacuum cleaner recall was initiated after BISSELL received 17 reports of the vacuum cleaners smoking and producing a burning odor. There were six incidents where the battery pack caught fire, leading to minor property damage in three cases and minor burn injuries in two.

Customers are urged to immediately cease using the recalled vacuum cleaners. BISSELL is offering instructions on how to safely deplete the vacuum’s battery charge and is providing a free replacement vacuum.
